The location of our facilities in the province of Malaga, means that we can offer our clients motorcycle routes in a day that manages to cover a large number of towns and landscapes worth seeing.
One of these routes is that which runs throughout the east of the Axarquía region, which forms the easternmost part of the province of Malaga.
The region of the Axarquía
La Axarquía is one of the most picturesque and unknown places in southern Spain. Far from the massive large cities of the province of Malaga, the Axarquía still has an authentic flavor to the past. Its landscapes from the mountain to the sea and its white villages offer the visitor a mixture of sensations that can hardly be found in other parts of the Spanish geography.
Its beaches belong to the Costa del Sol, so on its coast we will find the animation of its bars, restaurants, beach bars and music festivals. Also a great offer of sports and water hobbies.
Its mountains, on the other hand, are the spirit of contemplation and tranquility. With many hiking trails and charming townsthat will surprise us with its gastronomy and friendliness.
But let’s start to see what this motorcycle route has in store for us.
Vélez-Málaga
It is the capital of the Axarquía. A historic city with a great cultural and baroque and Mudejar architectural heritage. The city was conquered by the Catholic Monarchs in 1487, but its Arabic-Andalusian legacy endures among its streets, as is its most significant example: the fortress castle that crowns the city. Also its churches, many of them old mosques, and palaces that make up an old town full of alleys and surprises.
Nerja
Nerja is one of the most touristic and well-known cities of the Costa del Sol. It is famous for its impressive caves discovered in 1959, the Nerja Caves keep some of the oldest cave paintings of humanity.
In addition to its streets and cosmopolitan atmosphere, its beaches between cliffs are a must for all types of tourists. Among its monuments we can highlight “The Balcón de Europa”, a symbol for this city that became known throughout Spain thanks to the famous television series “Verano Azul”.
Frigiliana
Chosen as one of the most beautiful villages in Spain, Frigiliana offers its visitors an urban center nestled in the mountains. Its narrow and colorful alleys make it a village with an unforgettable charm. Its whitewashed facades reflect the lights of your beautiful sunset while you enjoy your favorite drink on many of its terraces.
A must visit for everyone. In addition, in summer it celebrates its famous Festival of the 3 Cultures where the whole town becomes a medieval market seasoned with performances of international depth.
Torrox
Under the Sierra de Almijara and next to the Mediterranean Sea we find this town divided into two (one in the interior and one next to the sea) with one of the best climates in Europe.
It was the Romans who founded it as a factory where they created their famous Garum. In fact, you can still admire these Roman ruins.
In addition to its churches and historic center in the inner Torrox, it is also worth seeing its lighthouse next to the sea in the coastal Torrox.
Cómpeta
We started to climb even more towards the Tejeda and Almijara mountain ranges. Cómpeta, in addition to being famous for its honey, is also famous for its winding road that climbs from the coast. A challenge for lovers of motorcycles.
Once in the village, we can rest and regain strength in any of its restaurants where roast suckling pig is their specialty seasoned with their world famous raisins and sweet wine.
The towns of the Tejeda and Almijara mountain ranges
We will continue by a route of towns to the skirts of the highest mountains of the province of Malaga.
Archez, with its Mudejar tower of the 12th century; Canillas de Albaida with its hermitages and its Muslim-era bridge; Salares with Casa Torreón, a jewel of popular Andalusian architecture; Sedella with its fortress and Roman bridge and Canillas de Aceituno with the remains of its castle. In Alcaucín we can admire its fantastic views as well as the ruins of its Castle of Zalia.
The Viñuela lake
We started the descent of the mountain and we went to the Viñuela lake.
This marsh located 230 meters above sea level offers an incomparable landscape surrounded by vegetation and mountains. A must stop to take out the camera.
It also offers many restaurants and hotels around where you can enjoy the best food of the Axarquía.
Comares
Known as “The Balcony of the Costa del Sol” for its location perched on the top of a hill. As is to be expected, it offers unbeatable views of the entire valley and the mountains. Comares has a rich heritage in remains of the Arab and Muslim era.
Torre del Mar
After passing through Benamargosa, we follow the road through the entire valley that will lead us back to the sea.
This time we will arrive at Torre del Mar, a tourist city with more than 4 kilometers of beaches. Open, dynamic and cosmopolitan, this city offers a wide variety of activities on its seafront, rated as the best in Europe.
These activities multiply in summer, as does its population. For some years it has hosted the Weekend Beach Festival, one of the most acclaimed music festivals in Spain, where national and international stars perform for four days.
