In 1937 with the first running of the Daytona 200 was the birth of the Daytona Beach bike rally. In the mid to late 40’s the bike week started getting a bad reputation because it was little out of control, but in the 80’s locals, officials, and bikers met to figure out how to keep Bike Week Daytona fun, but still reasonable for the officials and locals.
Today the law is issuing more tickets than they were 5 years ago, so brush up on the laws before you go. The Daytona Beach Bike Week is one of the “Big 4 Rallies”; the other three being the Sturgis rally, Laconia Motorcycle Week, and Myrtle Beach Bike Week.
Bike Week Daytona Florida is the kick off to the motorcycle rally season and is on the Lightning Customs’ 2009 Major Biker Rallies List. Bike Week Daytona Beach has expanded to Ormond Beach, Bruce Rossmeyer’s Destination Daytona, and other areas surrounding Datyona. Part of it has been the price gouging and part of it is because during the rally Daytona has grown so much.
